Bio
Recruited from the local northern suburbs, Jack Buckley was a tall, solidly built utility who arrived at Fitzroy via Coburg. Standing 183cm and weighing 85kg, he possessed the physical dimensions of a key position player for the late 1920s, earning his selection for the Maroons' opening round clash against Footscray in 1929. Despite his size and readiness for senior football, Buckley found it difficult to command a permanent spot in the side, managing just five appearances in the first half of the season without registering a goal. While his own VFL tenure was fleeting, he established a significant footballing lineage as the patriarch of a three-generation dynasty, being the father of long-serving Carlton defender Brian Buckley and the grandfather of Blues players Stephen and Mark Buckley.
