Stats
Bio
Recruited from Collingwood Districts, Jack Burns broke into the senior side in 1941 and quickly became a reliable defensive component during the war-impacted years of the league. A tenacious back pocket who could also rotate through the midfield, he was known for his close-checking style and consistency, missing very few games during the peak of his career. Unlike his brother Bob, whose tenure at Victoria Park lasted just one match, Jack became a regular fixture in the Magpies' lineup, featuring in the club's finals campaigns in the mid-1940s. Following the 1947 season, he departed the VFL to pursue a leadership opportunity as captain-coach of Sandringham in the VFA.
