Bio
Selected by St Kilda with pick 41 in the 2018 National Draft, Jack Bytel was a highly touted junior prospect whose draft value slid due to a serious stress fracture in his back. An inside midfielder who thrives on contested possession and clearance work, he spent his first year in rehabilitation before debuting in 2020. While he demonstrated his capacity to win the hard ball and apply defensive pressure, Bytel struggled to command a regular spot in the Saints' rotation, often oscillating between the AFL side and the VFL while battling inconsistent form and further injury interruptions. Following his delisting by St Kilda after the 2023 season, he was handed an AFL lifeline by Collingwood during the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection period to provide midfield depth, but found opportunities limited at the reigning premiers and was delisted for a second time at the conclusion of 2024.
