A mature-age recruit who had already traversed the VFA with Brunswick and Williamstown, Jack Cahill finally broke into the VFL ranks just weeks shy of his 30th birthday. After spending the 1924 season with the Carlton Districts reserves side, he was elevated to the senior list for the 1925 season and made his debut in the opening round fixture against South Melbourne. Standing 175cm, he operated as a rotating forward option, managing to hit the scoreboard in three of his four appearances for the Blues. Despite showing early promise with a consistent goal-kicking knack, his tenure at the top level was fleeting, and he drifted out of the senior side after a brief month-long cameo to conclude his short-lived VFL career.
