Bio
Recruited from Bendigo East after serving with the 57th Battalion during the First World War, "Snowy" Cannan is best remembered for the bizarre circumstances surrounding his breakout performance. After spending the 1924 season in the reserves, he was called up to the senior side in 1925 to replace the much-hyped Tasmanian recruit Col Deane. Wearing Deane's number 33 guernsey, Cannan started forward and booted three goals, delighting spectators who mistakenly believed they were watching the new interstate star. Despite this memorable entry, the versatile half-back and forward found senior opportunities limited in a strong era for the Demons, playing just one game during their 1926 premiership year before transferring to the VFA to represent Port Melbourne and Williamstown.
