Recruited from Stawell in country Victoria, Jack Carr was a quick wingman and rover who first trained with Melbourne during the 1934 pre-season. Although he was added to the senior list the following year, administrative delays regarding his clearance stalled his start until mid-season, eventually allowing him to make his debut against Carlton at the MCG in Round 8. His senior career was ultimately limited to just two consecutive appearances before a severe ankle injury sidelined him for the remainder of the home-and-away schedule. Despite the setback, Carr recovered in time to feature in the club's 1935 Reserves premiership side before being delisted and returning to his home club in 1937.
