Bio
Recruited from Walpeup in the Mallee region after attending St Patrick’s College in Sale, Jack Carroll was a wartime recruit whose brief VFL career was defined by his service in the Royal Australian Air Force. Like many players of the era, his opportunity at the top level came while he was stationed in Melbourne during the final year of the Second World War. A capable forward standing 180cm, he broke into the Collingwood lineup midway through the 1945 season, making his debut against Fitzroy in Round 8. He managed just one more senior appearance the following week against Richmond before his military commitments and the shifting post-war landscape saw him depart Victoria Park, remaining one of the club's many brief but valued contributors from the turbulent war years.
