Bio
Jack Condon was a tenacious mature-age recruit who made an immediate impression at Geelong during the club's build-up to its golden era. Originally from Hamilton and recruited via local side St Mary's, Condon broke into the senior lineup in 1949 at age 27 following a premiership with the reserves. Despite standing just 183cm, he operated as a mobile ruckman who relied on grit, pace, and precise distribution to his rovers rather than vertical leap, earning the club's Best First Year Player award. He was equally capable of impacting the scoreboard when resting forward, highlighted by a dominant eight-goal haul against Footscray in 1950. Condon's VFL career concluded after Geelong's preliminary final loss that same year, after which the railway fireman accepted a captain-coaching role at Portland, where he promptly led the club to a flag.
