Bio
Recruited from Mortlake in Victoria’s Western District, Jack “Cactus” Coolahan was a versatile half-forward and follower who commenced his league career with Melbourne in 1937. Finding senior opportunities limited at the Demons, he crossed to Footscray the following season where he quickly established himself as a dangerous avenue to goal, booting the majority of his career majors during a consistent 1938 campaign. Standing 180cm, Coolahan was a mobile marking target capable of pinch-hitting in the ruck, using his frame to create contests in the forward half. After two seasons at the Western Oval, he concluded his brief VFL service to return to his home club of Mortlake as a playing coach in 1940.
