Bio
Recruited from the local St Thomas Church of England side in Moonee Ponds, Jack Dolan was a classy half-back who played 24 games for Essendon during the late 1920s. While he was a serviceable defender at League level, he is perhaps best remembered for his high-profile defection to the VFA. Dolan was a central figure in Oakleigh's aggressive 1929 recruiting drive, where he was enticed by a lucrative offer to join a "big money" squad alongside former Essendon teammate Frank Maher. The move paid immediate dividends, as Dolan anchored the Oaks' defence during their famous back-to-back premierships in 1930 and 1931. He maintained a strong connection to Windy Hill long after his playing days ended, holding the title of Essendon's oldest living player prior to his death in 2001.
