Bio
Recruited from Prahran, Jack Doubleday established himself as a reliable follower for University during the club's final years in the league. Following the Students' withdrawal from the VFL at the end of 1914, he transferred to Melbourne, joining a significant contingent of former University players finding a new home at the MCG. A durable on-baller capable of drifting forward to hit the scoreboard, Doubleday missed only one game in his sole season with the Redlegs before his football career was cut short by the Great War. He enlisted for active service and rose to the rank of Lieutenant, but tragically died of pneumonia in Sheffield just weeks before the 1918 Armistice, leaving a legacy as one of the competition's fallen soldiers.
