Bio
Born in Perth but raised in Melbourne, Jack Drake was recruited from Old Xaverians to join Hawthorn during the club's difficult infancy in the VFL. A defender by trade who could drift forward, he made an immediate impact by booting a goal on debut against Fitzroy in Round 7, 1926. However, his momentum was instantly halted by an injury sustained in that maiden game, which sidelined him for six weeks and derailed his season. Drake returned to play two final matches late in the year but could not secure a spot on the senior list for 1927. His life ended tragically during World War II, where he was killed in action while defending the Bralos Pass in Greece in 1941.
