Teams

Recruited from the Footscray juniors, Jack Fisher was a product of the western suburbs who crossed to Glenferrie Oval in search of senior opportunities during the immediate post-war era. Joining a Hawthorn side that was struggling near the bottom of the ladder and frantically searching for depth, Fisher was one of many hopefuls trialled by the club during a difficult 1947 campaign. He made his senior debut in Round 10 against Essendon, retaining his place for just one subsequent match before falling out of the side. His VFL career was confined to that solitary fortnight, standing as a typical example of the transient nature of football for fringe players in a period where the Hawks won only four games for the season. Fisher eventually returned to obscurity in a footballing sense but lived a long life, passing away in 2015 at the age of 93.
