Bio
Hailing from the King Valley's prolific Flanigan footballing dynasty, Jack Flanigan was a rugged country recruit who paved the way for his family in the VFL. Recruited from Moyhu, the 184cm utility was the older brother of Essendon premiership star Bob "Bluestone" Flanigan, and local lore reputedly held that Jack was even tougher than his famous sibling. He managed just five senior games for the Mayblooms in 1930 before returning to the bush, where he cemented his status as a formidable local figure. Flanigan went on to finish third in the Ovens and King League's John Hughes Medal and coached Beechworth to a premiership in 1937.
