Jack Hardiman was a foundational figure for Richmond who established a significant family legacy at Geelong. A robust ruckman and natural leader, he initially captained the Tigers in the VFA during the late 1890s before crossing to the Pivot to play two seasons with Geelong at the turn of the century. He eventually returned to Punt Road to help steer the club through its final Association years, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the major league and serving as Richmond’s inaugural VFL vice-captain in 1908. While his own senior career concluded after the Tigers' debut season, he secured a lasting place in football history as the father of Geelong premiership brothers Harold and Les Hardiman.
