Stats
Bio
Recruited from Colac, Jack Harrington was a versatile utility who quickly became a fixture in the Essendon lineup during the mid-1950s. Capable of holding down a defensive post or pushing into the midfield as a ruck-rover and relief ruckman, he made an immediate impact to win the club's Best First Year Player award. His selfless playing style and reliability were further recognised with back-to-back Best Clubman honours, underscoring his high standing within the group. After missing only a handful of games during his first three seasons, Harrington's VFL career was prematurely ended at age 27 due to a serious eye injury, though he later continued in football as a captain-coach in the VFA.
