Bio
A local product born in Hawthorn, Jack Hester's entry into league football was significantly delayed by his service with the 24th Battalion during World War II. He eventually debuted for the Mayblooms in 1947 as a mature-age recruit, playing as a diminutive rover who stood just 169cm and weighed a slight 62kg. Despite his lack of size, Hester was a sharp operator around the goals, averaging exactly one goal per game across his two seasons at Glenferrie Oval. After finding opportunities limited or perhaps seeking a new challenge, he departed the VFL at the end of 1948 to continue his career in the VFA with Camberwell.
