Bio
A local product recruited from neighbouring Clifton Hill, Jack "Wedger" Holt established himself as a consistent figure in the Fitzroy lineup during the club’s golden era. He broke into the senior side in 1905 and immediately became a fixture in the starting 18, playing the first 12 games of the season consecutively to help set up the Maroons' premiership campaign. However, his season ended in heartbreak; he dropped out of the team late in the year—likely due to injury—and was forced to watch from the sidelines as Fitzroy defeated Collingwood in the Grand Final. Holt returned to add further games in 1906 but could not recapture his earlier continuity, eventually fading from the VFL scene and passing away prematurely at just 38 years of age.
