Bio
Recruited from Havelock, Jack Keily arrived at Princes Park under unique familial circumstances during the final year of the Great War. He was the younger brother of Carlton regular Mort Keily, who had been handed a draconian 24-match suspension for abusing a match steward, effectively ruling him out for two seasons. A fresh-faced employee of the Wills Tobacco company, Jack was brought into the side and reportedly wore Mort’s number 8 guernsey at his brother’s insistence to keep it in the family. Standing just 171cm, he managed four senior appearances in the 1918 season before slipping out of the VFL system, leaving a legacy as the loyal sibling who kept the locker warm during one of the era's most controversial bans.
