Bio
Recruited from Moonee Ponds West, Jack Kidd was a gifted all-round sportsman who captained the Essendon Cricket Club but saw his promising football trajectory derailed by a severe knee injury. Breaking into the Essendon lineup as an 18-year-old, the 183cm utility showed potential as a mobile follower and forward until the injury in 1928 forced him to briefly retire and coach Tungamah in the country leagues. He eventually returned to the VFL but struggled to re-establish himself, drifting through short stints at Carlton and Fitzroy as he fought for a spot in the senior 22. Unable to settle at the elite level, Kidd finished his playing days in the VFA with Oakleigh and Camberwell, remembered largely as a versatile athlete whose body ultimately let him down.
