Recruited from Thornbury CYMS, Jack Lancaster was a versatile forward who provided valuable depth for Fitzroy during the height of the Second World War. Standing 180cm, a solid height for the era, he was capable of playing as a marking target or rotating through the flanks, managing to boot six goals across his brief VFL tenure. He made his debut in the middle of the 1943 season and remained a regular fixture in the lineup during the first half of Fitzroy's historic 1944 premiership campaign. Although he featured seven times that year, including in a thumping victory over Geelong, Lancaster lost his spot in the senior side after Round 12, ultimately missing out on a place in the team that secured the flag against Richmond later that September.
