A gifted dual sportsman who played first-class cricket for Victoria, Jack Lowry was a high-profile recruit for St Kilda after winning a premiership and the league best and fairest with Prahran in the VFA. Operating primarily as a centreman, Lowry was a classy ball-user who added polish to the Saints' engine room, though his prime footballing years were heavily curtailed by service with the Army during World War II. His time at the top level was further hampered by persistent injuries, limiting him to just over a half-century of games across nine seasons. Lowry eventually requested a clearance back to the VFA early in 1946, joining Sandringham where he capped off his career by featuring in the club's inaugural premiership side.
