Stats
Bio
Recruited from the local Essendon CYMS side, Jack Lyons was a tenacious and hard-running back pocket who made an immediate impact at VFL level. He starred in his debut season for the Bombers in 1945, finishing runner-up in the club's Best and Fairest award behind Wally Buttsworth. However, his time at Windy Hill ended in disappointment; despite playing regularly throughout the 1946 season, he was omitted from the finals campaign and missed out on the premiership side. Lyons subsequently crossed to North Melbourne to secure regular senior opportunities, where he quickly re-established his standing as a premier defender, polling nine Brownlow votes in 1947 to finish as the Shinboners' second-highest vote-getter. He played two strong seasons at Arden Street before his VFL tenure concluded, remembered as a consistent defender who was unlucky to miss out on ultimate success at Essendon.
