Bio
Originally hailing from Carey Grammar, Jack MacDonald arrived at Hawthorn via VFA club Camberwell after a brief administrative tussle over his services. Although he had been training impressively with Melbourne, the Hawks successfully enforced their residential zoning rights to secure his signature for the 1951 season. A dangerous forward who played above his 179cm frame, MacDonald possessed strong aerial ability and a sharp eye for the big sticks, quickly establishing himself as a key avenue to goal for a struggling lineup. He finished second in the club's goalkicking in his debut year before topping the table with 25 majors in 1952, providing a rare focal point in attack during a lean era where the Hawks often found themselves at the foot of the ladder.
