Bio
Standing at a diminutive 168cm, Jack Malone was a local recruit from North Footscray who stepped up to senior football during the player shortages of the Second World War. Born in Maldon, he made his debut for Footscray late in the 1941 season and held his spot for five consecutive matches before his football career was interrupted by service in the Royal Australian Air Force. This military duty forced him to miss the entire 1942 season, and although he returned for a solitary final appearance against Richmond in 1943, he was unable to re-establish a long-term place in the side. Malone remains a classic example of the wartime footballer, whose brief sporting tenure was ultimately defined and curtailed by his service to the country.
