Teams

Recruited from South Ballarat after topping the local league’s goalkicking tables, Jack McCormack was a prolific full-forward who wasted no time establishing himself at VFL level. He booted five goals on debut against Footscray late in the 1927 season and played in that year’s Grand Final loss to Collingwood, though he was held goalless in the heavy rain. Possessing a superb left-foot drop kick, McCormack enjoyed his best individual campaign in 1929, finishing second in the club’s goalkicking despite playing just 13 games, highlighted by a seven-goal haul against Essendon. His time at Punt Road ended abruptly when he transferred to VFA club Preston in 1930, drawn by a match payment of five pounds that significantly eclipsed the wages offered by Richmond.
