Teams

Born in the gold rush town of Walhalla, Jack Meuleman established himself as a defensive stalwart for Footscray during the club's powerhouse era in the VFA. A reliable back pocket, he was a key member of the side's back-to-back premiership triumphs in 1919 and 1920, helping to anchor a defence that dominated the Association. By the time Footscray was admitted to the VFL in 1925, Meuleman was already 31 years old, but he remained to play seven games in the club's inaugural major league season before hanging up his boots later that year. While his VFL statistics are modest, his standing as a dual-premiership player in the VFA cements his legacy at the Western Oval, and he is further remembered as the patriarch of a prominent cricketing family, with his son Ken going on to play Test cricket for Australia.
