Bio
A rare Queensland-born talent in the VFL’s war-time era, Jack Minnis arrived at Melbourne via Xavier College and the Old Xavierians amateurs. He operated primarily as a wingman, breaking into the senior side late in the 1942 season against Fitzroy and retaining his spot as a regular contributor through the difficult war years. While he showed promise as a mid-sized utility over his three campaigns, Minnis’s league career was cut short by his off-field ambitions; he retired from top-level football after the 1944 season to complete his studies at the University of Melbourne rather than returning for the post-war boom.
