Jack Newnes

Recruited from the Northern Knights with pick 37 in the 2011 National Draft, Jack Newnes established himself as a durable and hard-running utility at St Kilda. Primarily utilised on a wing or across half-back, he became a fixture in the Saints' lineup, renowned for his elite aerobic capacity and resilience which saw him string together an impressive sequence of 123 consecutive games. His consistency and professionalism were recognised internally when he was elevated to the leadership group, serving as a reliable figure during a transitional period for the club. Despite his service, he was delisted by St Kilda at the conclusion of the 2019 season as the club looked to reshape its list.

Newnes was subsequently signed by Carlton as a delisted free agent, where he added valuable experience to a developing Blues outfit. While he continued to provide steady contributions on the outside, his tenure at Princes Park is best remembered for a singular highlight in 2020: a match-winning goal after the siren against Fremantle at Optus Stadium, executed from the boundary line with a high degree of difficulty. He brought up his 200th AFL game in 2022, a testament to his longevity and persistence in the system, before being delisted by the Blues at the end of that season.
