Bio
Recruited from the amateur ranks, Jack Nicholson was a short-lived figure in the VFL who holds the statistical quirk of playing exactly one senior game for two different clubs. He first appeared for the University Football Club in 1912, stepping into a side that was increasingly outgunned by professional opposition, but he could not retain his place in the lineup. Like many of his teammates who sought a more competitive environment as the Students' on-field fortunes declined, Nicholson crossed to the Melbourne Football Club for the 1913 season. His transition to the Redlegs proved equally difficult; he managed a solitary appearance in Round 12 but failed to impact the scoreboard or secure a regular spot in the side. He left the league prior to the outbreak of the First World War, remembered primarily as one of the many University players who drifted into the wider VFL system without finding sustained success.
