Bio
Recruited from South Ballarat, Jack O'Brien found his way to Essendon after seeking advice from friend and future teammate Dan Hanley. The versatile follower and defender made an immediate impact, cementing a spot in the back pocket for the Dons' 1912 premiership side in his debut season. Described as a strong-marking battler with excellent judgement, O'Brien surprisingly returned to South Ballarat midway through 1913 despite his early success. He later resurfaced in the VFL with Fitzroy for a brief stint during the war years before finishing his career in the VFA with Northcote.
