Bio
A formidable figure who arrived at the Junction Oval late in his footballing life, Jack Perkins was a battle-hardened recruit from VFA powerhouse Northcote. Joining St Kilda at the age of 31, he carried a reputation as a fierce enforcer who had served lengthy suspensions in the Association for his uncompromising physicality. He immediately added steel to the Saints' lineup as a ruckman and key defender, using his strength to protect teammates and control the air. His standing within the club rose so rapidly that he was appointed captain in 1936, but his career ended prematurely when the Police Commissioner banned officers from playing VFL football, forcing him to hang up the boots while still the skipper.
