Stats
Bio
A product of the Victorian amateur system, Jack Petchell joined South Melbourne after impressing with Scotch College and University Blues. Standing just 173cm, the diminutive rover and half-forward proved to be a dangerous option near goal, maintaining an average of better than a goal a game throughout his three-season stint at the Lakeside Oval. He was a consistent contributor between 1927 and 1929, often resting forward to potent effect before crossing to the VFA to join Preston. While his time in the VFL was relatively brief, Petchell later achieved significant sporting fame as an elite lawn bowler, eventually winning an Australian Singles Championship and earning induction into the Bowls SA Hall of Fame.
