Bio
Recruited from Brunswick in the VFA, Jack Ryan was a rover who initially tried his luck at Essendon in the early 1930s. Born in the Goulburn Valley town of Kyabram, he found senior opportunities scarce at Windy Hill, spending much of his tenure in the Second XVIII and managing just five appearances for the senior side. In search of regular football, he secured a mid-season transfer to Fitzroy in June 1932, immediately slotting into the Maroons' lineup for a brief stint. Despite the change of scenery, Ryan added only four more games to his career tally before departing the VFL scene, later serving in the Australian Army during the Second World War.
