Stats
Bio
Recruited from Carnegie, Jack Ryan was a diminutive but dangerous rover who became one of Hawthorn's few reliable avenues to goal during the club's difficult early years in the VFL. Standing just 165cm, he combined the agility of a traditional small man with an uncanny ability to hit the scoreboard, averaging two goals a game across his five-season career—a remarkable strike rate for a midfielder in a struggling side. He topped the Mayblooms' goalkicking in consecutive seasons (1931 and 1932), providing a rare highlight for supporters during a lean era for the club. After 70 games, Ryan departed the league to pursue captain-coaching roles in country Victoria, leading Bendigo CYMS and later Warrnambool.
