Bio
Recruited from Ferny Creek, Jack Sands was a follower who secured his place in history as a member of Footscray's inaugural VFL squad. Standing 180cm, he broke into the senior side during the club's historic entry to the league in 1925, playing six consecutive matches and booting two goals as the Tricolours found their feet in the competition. However, his top-level career was abruptly curtailed by injury and a severe bout of appendicitis rather than poor form. Sands eventually moved on from football to serve in both the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Navy during World War II.
