Bio
Recruited from the small Gippsland town of Iona, Jack Scanlon established himself as a reliable defender for St Kilda during a challenging period for the club in the 1930s. Operating primarily across the half-back flank and back pocket, he was often tasked with repelling opposition attacks in a Saints lineup that frequently found itself under siege. After seven seasons and 67 senior appearances at the Junction Oval, Scanlon departed the VFL system to pursue a leadership opportunity as captain-coach of Coburg in the VFA. His contribution to Victorian football extended well beyond his playing days, as he later became the founder of the Batman Football Club—which eventually evolved into Coburg Districts—leaving a lasting imprint on the local game.
