Bio
Recruited from the junior club Rose of Northcote, Jack Scobie established himself as a premier defender of the pre-war era, famously anchoring South Melbourne's backline in their 1909 premiership victory just days after turning eighteen. A reliable full-back and half-back flanker, he was a key fixture in the Bloods' defence and played in another Grand Final in 1912 before his VFL career was interrupted by a move to Western Australia during the First World War. While across the Nullarbor, Scobie continued his success by winning two premierships with East Fremantle in the WAFL. He eventually returned to Victoria for a final season with Carlton in 1919, concluding a distinguished journey that saw him collect silverware in two of the country's major leagues.
