Bio
An Essendon local recruited from Doutta Stars, Jack Simpson was a tall ruckman and forward who faced the difficult task of breaking into the Bombers' powerhouse lineup of the late 1940s. Standing 192cm, he managed four senior appearances in his debut season but found himself squeezed out of the senior side during the club's 1950 premiership campaign, instead playing a key role in the reserves' flag triumph that year. After adding just two more senior games in 1951, he departed the VFL to pursue greater opportunities in the VFA, enjoying stints with Williamstown and Brunswick. While his top-level football career was brief, Simpson later achieved significant prominence off the field, serving for over a decade as a Member of Parliament and minister in the Victorian state government.
