Teams

Recruited from local side West Footscray, Jack Storey earned his shot at the top level after impressing for a combined district team in a scratch match against the senior Bulldogs line-up. A talented centreman with an eye for goal, he broke into the Footscray side late in the 1948 season but found opportunities limited over his two-year stint at the Western Oval. Seeking regular senior football, Storey crossed to Port Melbourne in the VFA in 1950, where his impact was immediate and profound. He claimed the Borough's Best and Fairest award in his debut season and went on to become a club great, anchoring the midfield in their 1953 premiership victory and later serving as a captain-coach in the lower leagues.
