Bio
A highly rated West Australian defender whose VFL career was defined by military service, Jack Sweet arrived at South Melbourne while stationed in Victoria during World War II. Originally recruited from Harvey to East Perth, he established himself as a classy back pocket in the WAFL before moving east on war duties in 1941. Although injuries and service commitments delayed his debut for the Swans until 1943, he made an immediate impact across his six mid-season appearances, with club secretary Joe Kelly describing him as one of the finest footballers to come out of the west. Sweet returned to Western Australia after the war, where he went on to captain East Perth and later served as captain-coach of Subiaco.
