Bio
Recruited directly from Melbourne High School, Jack Taylor was one of many young footballers who earned a brief opportunity at VFL level during the tumultuous final season of the Second World War. Standing at 178cm with a solid build, he was brought into the Hawthorn lineup midway through the 1945 season to help cover list deficiencies caused by wartime service commitments. Taylor made his debut in Round 10 against Footscray and held his spot for the following week's clash against Richmond, donning the number 5 guernsey. His senior career was ultimately limited to those two appearances, serving as a classic example of the transient "fill-in" players who kept the league running during the war years before rosters stabilised in the post-war era.
