Bio
Recruited from the Wimmera town of Horsham, Jack Turnbull played a single season for South Melbourne during the 1908 VFL campaign. He managed 12 senior games for the Bloods, failing to trouble the scorers and departing the club at the end of the year to return to regional Victoria. After settling in Ballarat to work as a bricklayer, Turnbull's legacy became defined not by his brief football career but by his service in the Great War. He enlisted in the AIF and was deployed to the Western Front, where he was severely wounded in action and died in France in May 1917. Today, he is remembered with solemn reverence as one of the club's fallen Anzacs who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
