Recruited from the Carlton Juniors, Jack Vale was a local product who briefly broke into the Blues' senior lineup in the mid-1920s. Unable to cement a regular spot at Princes Park, he managed just two appearances in his debut season before spending two years out of the VFL system. He resurfaced at Fitzroy in 1928, where he found greater continuity as a ruckman and flanker. Vale became a consistent contributor for the Maroons over two seasons, adding 29 games to his tally and providing physicality around the ground before his league career concluded at the end of 1929.
