Stats
Bio
Recruited from Melbourne Grammar where he was a standout multi-sport athlete, Jack Walker arrived at the Junction Oval with a reputation as a cricket prodigy and high jump record holder. Standing 184cm—exceptionally tall for the era—but lightly built, he broke into the senior side late in the 1910 season, notably featuring in St Kilda’s solitary win that year against Carlton. Despite his athletic promise, his time at the elite level was brief, comprising just four appearances and two goals across two seasons before he stepped away from the game to focus on his career as a law clerk. His story is ultimately defined by tragedy rather than football statistics; after enlisting in the 8th Battalion during World War I, Walker was killed in action during the Battle of Pozières in 1916 at the age of 24.
