Bio
A product of the VFA club Prahran, Jack Whitehead was a mature-age recruit who received a brief opportunity at the elite level during the Second World War. Already 29 years old when he made his debut, he was brought into the St Kilda side in 1942 as clubs scrambled to fill lists depleted by military enlistments. A defender by trade, Whitehead had previously trained with Richmond in the late 1930s without breaking through, but finally earned his VFL guernsey with the Saints during a difficult season for the club. He played just three senior games in the backline before his short-lived league career came to a close, remaining one of the many "war-time fill-ins" who helped keep the competition afloat during the conflict.
