Bio
Recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick nine in the 2008 National Draft, Jack Ziebell established himself as the spiritual leader of North Melbourne through his fearless attack on the ball and uncompromising physical presence. Primarily a contested midfielder who could drift forward to act as a dangerous marking target, his career was defined by an unwavering courage that often saw him play through pain or suffer impact injuries. He possessed a penetrating kick and a capacity to lift his side through sheer force of will, traits that made him a natural successor to Andrew Swallow as club captain in 2017.
Ziebell led the Kangaroos for six seasons, shouldering the heavy burden of leadership during a difficult on-field transition for the club. As the speed of the game increased and his own pace declined, he demonstrated significant versatility by reinventing himself as a rebounding defender in his twilight years, utilising his distribution skills and calmness to organise the backline. He retired at the conclusion of the 2023 season as a beloved one-club player, widely respected across the league as one of the toughest competitors of his generation.
