Bio
Recruited from local club Seddon Rovers, Jack Zimmerman was a tall and sturdy key position prospect who featured intermittently for Footscray in the late 1930s. Standing 185cm, he offered significant size for the era and managed 14 senior games across three seasons at the Western Oval. However, his football journey was cut short by the outbreak of the Second World War, during which he enlisted as a private in the Australian Army's 7th Battalion. Tragically, Zimmerman did not survive the war years; he died of illness at the Heidelberg Military Hospital in September 1944 aged just 26, leaving his football potential unfulfilled as one of the league's wartime casualties.
