Bio
Jacob Hopper arrived at Greater Western Sydney via the club's academy system, selected with pick 7 in the 2015 National Draft after the Giants matched a bid from Gold Coast. Hailing from Leeton in the Riverina, he made an immediate impact upon his debut in 2016, gathering 32 disposals to earn a Rising Star nomination and quickly establishing himself as a future centrepiece of the Giants' midfield. Over seven seasons in Sydney's west, Hopper developed into one of the league's premier contested ball-winners, known for his clean hands in traffic and ability to extract the football from stoppages. His time at the Giants peaked individually with consecutive top-three finishes in the Kevin Sheedy Medal in 2020 and 2021, along with selection in the All-Australian squad.
Following the 2022 season, Hopper requested a trade to Richmond, joining fellow Giant Tim Taranto in a high-profile move that saw the Tigers invest significant draft capital to secure the pair on long-term contracts. Since arriving at Punt Road, the big-bodied midfielder has shouldered a heavy load in the engine room, providing grit and clearance dominance to support the Tigers' transition into a new era. Now an experienced campaigner with over 150 games to his name, Hopper remains a critical component of Richmond's midfield setup, tasked with winning the hard ball and setting physical standards for the club's emerging on-ball brigade.
