Bio
Arriving at Gold Coast via the 2011 mini-draft amid enormous expectation, O'Meara immediately delivered on the hype. The Dongara product was a standout in his debut season, winning the 2013 Rising Star award with a blend of speed, endurance, and classy ball use that drew comparisons to the game's elite. However, his time at the Suns became defined by severe knee issues, specifically a ruptured patellar tendon, which wiped out his 2015 and 2016 campaigns entirely and forced him to fundamentally alter his playing style.
Seeking a fresh start, O'Meara requested a trade to Hawthorn ahead of the 2017 season. While he never fully regained the explosive athleticism of his teenage years, he reinvented himself as a robust inside midfielder and strong tackler, eventually serving as the Hawks' vice-captain. In a surprise move during the 2022 trade period, he was dealt to Fremantle as Hawthorn aggressively cleared salary cap space and looked to the draft. Now back in his home state, O'Meara provides experienced leadership to the Dockers' engine room, often rotating between the midfield and a high half-forward role as a hardened veteran.
